Retail Packaging | Design Coup helps land a major contract with K-Mart
KENNESAW, GA: World Import Co. is one of the largest direct importers for the retail trade. Founded in 1987, the company imports a broad range of quality consumer products from its factories in mainland China. Its retail packaging (designed by Design Coup Inc.) is seen in major retailers including Wal-Mart, Sam's Club, Kroger, Dollar General and other merchants.
World Import approached Design Coup to create packaging for a new line of calculators to be presented to K-Mart.
"K-Mart was looking to establish a value line of calculators that would fit with their branded models," explains Jim Wehner of World Import. "Because of Design Coup's experience with Wal-Mart's Durabrand® line, we turned to them to create a simple, yet solid design that would fit K-Mart's need."
"There are only three manufacturers of simple calculators in the world," explains Michael Higgins of Design Coup. "At the end of the day, the true product differentiation is the packaging design. The challenge is to fit into the retailer's merchandising strategy for their particular market niche.
K-Mart purchased the complete line of calculators from World Import. Design Coup is currently taking the prototype designs to the next stage as production designs that will be manufactured in China.
